About Sarria - San Gervasi, Barcelona
Sarria-Sant Gervasi is one of the biggest districts of Barcelona, Spain, situated on the north-west of the city. This expensive neighbourhood is surrounded by districts of Les Corts, Gracia, E ...more details >nsanche and Horta-Guinardo, and by the villages of Sant Just, Sant Feliu, Molins de Rei and Sant Cugat.
Sarria-Sant Gervasi used to be a rural zone that in the mid 19th century was discovered by the Catalan upper-middle class. Soon the region became a wealthy urban area with big elegant houses, religious schools and convents.
Nowadays Sarria-Sant Gervasi is a posh area with beautiful houses, charming plazas – squares –, traditional stores and some lovely narrow streets. Part of the Collserola Mountain belongs to the district, where you can find the famous Tibidabo Mountain – the tallest in the Serra de Collserola - and the beautiful Obervatori Fabra – a scientist institution created in 1894 that studies astronomy and meteorology. There is a railway station (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya – FGC) called Sarria that gets to Barcelona centre in few minutes.
Tres Torres is a neighbourhood located within the smart district Sarria-Sant Gervasi.
At the beginning Tres Torres was just an unpopulated area in Sant Gervasi outskirts. Between 1901 and 1903 some neighbours took the initiative of developing the region and soon three big houses (usually called ‘towers’) were built – the neighbourhood gets its name ‘Tres Torres’ (Three Towers) from these first constructions. One of these houses is still standing in the streets Via Augusta – Doctor Roux as a silent proud witness of Tres Torres early days. As years passed by other elegant houses were built and in the mid 20th century began the construction of smart buildings with big flats.
Tres Torres can be divided into two areas – a modern quarter with tall contemporary buildings and an older and smaller quarter near Tres Torres market.< hide more details
